Is your laptop reporting 30% battery life, only to shut down seconds later? This “percentage jumping” happens when the battery’s internal sensor loses sync with Windows. Calibration forces them to talk to each other again.
The 100-to-0 Calibration Method
- Charge to Full: Plug in your laptop and let it reach 100%. Keep it plugged in for at least 2 more hours to ensure the cells are fully saturated.
- Change Power Settings: Go to Control Panel > Power Options. Set “Critical Battery Action” to Hibernate and “Critical Battery Level” to 5%.
- The Discharge: Unplug the charger and use the laptop (or leave it on) until it hibernates itself at 5%. Do not use it during the final 5%.
- The Rest: Let the laptop sit powered off for at least 5 hours.
- Recharge: Plug it back in and charge it to 100% without interruption. Your Windows battery meter is now calibrated!
