If your cursor is moving but you can’t click, or the trackpad feels “stuck,” it could be a simple setting or a serious hardware warning.
1. The “Function Key” Fix
Check the top row of your keyboard. Many laptops (like ASUS and Acer) have a key that looks like a crossed-out trackpad. Press Fn + [that key] to re-enable it.
2. The Battery Swelling Warning (Critical)
If your trackpad is physically bulging upward or feels very hard to click, stop using the laptop. * In many laptops, the battery sits directly under the trackpad.
- As batteries age, they can swell like a balloon, pushing against the trackpad.
- Solution: Follow Article #2 to replace the battery immediately before it cracks the chassis or catches fire.
3. Reinstall the HID Driver
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your “HID-compliant touch pad” and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall a clean version of the driver.
